SumOffice Embedded — Word and Excel inside your product
Your product already holds the documents. Today your users leave it to edit them, or use an integration you would not choose again. This is one deliverable that closes that gap: two editors with their engines as server images, one integration contract, one annual license per application. Under your name, inside your perimeter. And before any contract — proven on your files.

What is proven, not promised
- Macros travel with the file and are read, not lost. Of 13 870 macros in 3 738 public Enron macro workbooks, 73 % route native — SumSheet can attempt them in its own sandbox; the report names each one and where it goes. The VBA project came back byte-identical after edit and save. Which of your macros run is shown on your files, not promised here.
- Files come back intact. A macro workbook edited and saved: 14 parts of 14, 197 formulas of 197, defined names kept; Excel opened it without a repair dialog. DOCX with pictures, comments and footnotes: Word opens it clean.
- Speed you see in the first ten seconds. The engine parses a workbook with 400 000 formulas in about 0.1 s; in the browser editor a workbook with half a million formulas is on screen in about 3 s; recalculation of a real Enron workbook on open — 126 ms.
- Inside real systems. Nextcloud: open, edit, save, download, Excel opens — three steps, measured. Layers (our own workspace, 37 000 accounts): the same images serve Word and Excel inside chats and files every day.
- One container, small footprint. 2 GB for the server plus about 250 MB per open document; no cluster, no external database.
How a purchase goes
- Your files first. Send a folder of your customers’ typical workbooks and documents (or run Check yourself). Within a business day you get a report: what opens, what round-trips, which macros route where, what does not survive yet. You keep the report either way.
- Evaluation, free, no time limit. Pull the images, wire the two URLs, open your files in your product. Compose files and the standalone run: SumOfficeApp/sumoffice-docker.
- Pilot, two weeks, on your server with written acceptance criteria. The pilot fee counts toward the annual license.
- Production. Annual license per application, white-label, self-hosted. Changes under your process — priced by class with a date and a person responsible (order a change); our own defects are fixed for free, and the pit stop board shows how fast.
What does not survive yet, honestly
- Power Query definitions are preserved in the browser editor and refreshed in the desktop app; refresh inside the server editor is on the queue.
- Macros routed “Excel bridge” (COM automation of other applications, some ActiveX) stay in Excel; the report names them.
- One editor per document at a time in the browser; a second person gets read-only. Co-editing lives in Layers today and comes to the server images next.

Leaving is a day’s work
Files stay real .docx and .xlsx on your storage. If after the pilot it is not for you, nothing is stuck: no export, no migration, Excel and Word open everything. That is the whole point of a real format.
