Edit the attachments of a Confluence page — without downloading, and every save is a new version.
The workbook, the contract draft or the slide deck attached to a page is usually the real content of that page. Confluence stores and previews it — it cannot edit it. SumOffice for Confluence opens the attachment in the browser, in SumSheet, SumDoc or SumSlide, and Ctrl+S saves a new version of the same attachment, so the page history shows who changed what. The VBA project of an .xlsm workbook comes back byte for byte.
Install
- In Confluence: Apps → Explore more apps, search for SumOffice, open the app and press Get it now. A site administrator approves the permissions once.
- Nothing to configure: no server address, no key. Settings → Excel, Word & PowerPoint — SumOffice only shows that the service and the editors are reachable and which formats are offered.
Use
- Open a page that has an
.xlsx,.xlsm,.xlsb,.docxor.pptxattachment. - In the ••• menu of the page choose Edit Office attachments — SumOffice. The list shows the office attachments of that page.
- Press Edit next to a file. It opens in the editor in a large window.
- Edit and press Ctrl+S (or the save button). The attachment gets a new version; earlier versions stay in the attachment history of the page.
Two people who open the same attachment edit it together, each under their own name and with their own Confluence rights: someone who may only view the page can open the file but cannot save it.
What was measured
| The round | Confluence Cloud, 26 September 2026. A macro workbook (three sheets, a Power Query table, a VBA macro) and a Word document with five pictures: attached to a page, opened, edited, saved back. |
|---|---|
| The macros | vbaProject.bin came back byte for byte — 22 parts of 22, the hidden name that binds the Power Query table intact. |
| The pictures | All five byte for byte, 16 parts of 16. |
| Where the save lands | A new version of the same attachment, not a new file. |
Where the file goes
| The path | Confluence → the SumOffice service (Amazon Web Services, Frankfurt) → the SumOffice editors. The file is never written to disk in between and nothing is kept after the editing session. |
|---|---|
| Your rights | Every read and every write happens with the rights of the person who opened the file. The app holds no rights of its own in your site. |
| Your tokens | The Atlassian token never reaches the browser. Every call from the app is signed by Atlassian and checked. |
| Privacy | Privacy policy of the app. |
Known limits
- Files up to 100 MiB.
- The app uses an external service (Forge Remote), so it is not “Runs on Atlassian” and offers no data residency.
- Only Confluence Cloud. For Jira see SumOffice for Jira.
